Tip Toeing in My Jordans: The AI Rumpelstiltskin Meme, Explained
No, it's not an '80s movie — or a Russian one. It's an AI clip that looked enough like practical-effects fantasy that half the internet went hunting for a film that isn't there. Then someone put Riff Raff under it.
You've seen him. A short, gnome-like imp tip-toes across a barn full of straw, dances for a terrified woman, spins the hay into gold, gets a kiss, and turns into a prince. The footage has the grain, the lighting, and the slightly wrong footwork of an '80s fantasy film that never quite left VHS. People swore it was from the 1987 Rumpelstiltskin musical. Others said Russian cinema. Know Your Meme, NBC News, and LADbible all land in the same place: it is AI-generated.
Where the clip actually came from
According to Know Your Meme, the original video went up on Instagram on August 27, 2026, posted collaboratively by the accounts Stroinaya, Neuroferma, and Anna Glinskaya. NBC News names the creator as Tatyana Tereshchenko, a self-described AI artist and filmmaker; Know Your Meme's embed credits the post to Tatyana Tereshchenko (Stroinaya) (@stroinaya). LADbible quotes the Aug 27 caption: you can "create a fantasy world, shoot a short film without a camera and actors" without a big team or budget — and the post steered people toward a course on turning AI prompts into cinema.
The look is doing the heavy lifting. LADbible notes that the generator pulled the tropes of 1980s fantasy — the pre-CGI practical-effects gait, the barn, the handsome-prince button at the end — the same visual language people still attach to movies like The NeverEnding Story, Labyrinth, and The Dark Crystal. That is why the "is this a real movie?" search stuck. The 1987 musical exists. This barn dance is not in it.
Know Your Meme logged over 840 shares on the Instagram original in about a month. Then the song showed up.
How Riff Raff turned it into a meme
On September 29, 2026, TikToker @6aimbot9 set the dance to Riff Raff's "Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz" with the caption "The type of dreams I be having after taking dollar store melatonin." Know Your Meme put that upload above 850,000 views in a week; NBC, writing a few days later, put the same early popularizer above 900,000. Either way, the pairing stuck.
Three days later, on October 1, X user @itsjusttimbro posted the clip under the same track. Know Your Meme counted more than 11,000 likes and 9.8 million views in five days. From there it became a template: funny captions, green-screen cutouts, AI swaps that drop Asmongold or Supernatural's Winchester brothers into the dance. NBC reported a TikTok account dedicated to variations clearing 65,000 followers in a few days, plus people re-enacting the dance offline. Some still thought they were watching an old reel. X user @timderoche joked that the clip must be where David Lynch got Twin Peaks' dancing dwarf — assuming it was film, not a prompt.
Know Your Meme marked the entry Confirmed on October 6 and updated it October 8. Status: AI-generated, exploitable.
The song is older than the meme — and already had a life
"Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz" is the intentional misspelling of "Tip-toeing in my Jordans." Riff Raff released it June 10, 2014, as the second official single from his debut album Neon Icon, on Mad Decent, produced by Top Secret Productions. It peaked at No. 24 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100. The official video landed on his YouTube that November.
The hook did not wait twelve years for a gnome. Know Your Meme's 2014 entry — added August 4 that year — tracks how Vine turned the chorus into literal tip-toe dances: people and animals bouncing on their toes, often in sneakers, often as a parody of sneakerhead flex culture. By August 2014 KYM noted 500-plus Vines under #tiptoeinginmyjordans. So when 2026 TikTok reached for a song about creeping in your Jordans, it was not inventing a soundtrack. It was waking one up.
Why this one fools people
Two things stacked. First, the AI did not aim for glossy CGI. It aimed for the imperfect physicality of practical effects — the thing internet audiences still treat as an authenticity stamp. Second, the fairytale is half-remembered correctly (straw, gold, a deal) and half rewritten (dance, kiss, prince), which is exactly how a "lost scene" rumor spreads. The questions people kept asking — origin, movie, is it AI, where did it come from — are the same ones Know Your Meme and NBC set out to answer. Those are article questions, not just scroll questions.
Credit where it is due: Tatyana Tereshchenko / @stroinaya for the clip; @6aimbot9 for the sound pairing that made it a format; Riff Raff for a 2014 sneaker flex that Vine already knew how to dance to. The joke is not that AI made a gnome. The joke is that the gnome looked enough like film history that a twelve-year-old Houston hook could walk him across the timeline in Jordans that were never on his feet.
Bottom line: The Tip Toeing in My Jordans Rumpelstiltskin meme is AI, not an '80s print. Instagram, late August 2026. Riff Raff, June 2014. The rest is people arguing over a clip while the little guy keeps tip-toeing.
